Work-Related Injury Bill Signed by Governor Rendell

House Bill 30, sponsored by Rep. Marie A. Lederer (D-Philadelphia), amends the Worker’s Compensation Act, further providing for disposition of benefits among beneficiaries in the case of death resulting from a work-related injury.  The bill provides that where there is no widow or widower, but there are two ore more children entitled to compensation, the percentage amounts payable thereto will be divided equally among the children, regardless of if they have different guardians. In cases where there is both a widow or widower and at least one child, but the widower is a non-custodial parent, the percentage amount payable is to be divided equally among the widow or widower and the children.

The bill passed the House 193-0 and the Senate 49-0. The bill is effective immediately.
